CG Academy Advanced Texturing 1 - Creature UV Unwrapping

 

Description
In this DVD Dominic Qwek will guide you through a fast and efficient workflow for unwrapping the UV’s on a complex organic creature mesh (the creature he modelled in his Advanced Modelling DVD). The DVD is structured in two halves, in the first half Dominic covers the “traditional” workflow used in 3dsmax 7.0 and earlier releases. And in the second half Dominic moves on to show how the new features of 3dsmax 8.0 such as Pelt Mapping and its enhanced Relax Tools can be used to accelerate and complement the processes shown in the first section of the DVD.
This DVD is intended for advanced users and requires an understanding of the principles of UVs and a good working knowledge of the UV Unwrap tool featured in 3dsmax. The workflows on this DVD can to a large extent also be carried across to other 3d software such as Maya and XSI.

Description
This comprehensive DVD will introduce to you and take you through many of the fundamental concepts of texturing models in a CG environment. What is UVW mapping and how do I work with it? How do 3D procedural textures map themselves onto our models? How can I lock those procedurals to my deforming characters mesh (skin, soft body dynamic objects etc). CG Academy Advanced Texturing 1 - Creature UV Unwrapping

 

Description
In this DVD Dominic Qwek will guide you through a fast and efficient workflow for unwrapping the UV’s on a complex organic creature mesh (the creature he modelled in his Advanced Modelling DVD). The DVD is structured in two halves, in the first half Dominic covers the “traditional” workflow used in 3dsmax 7.0 and earlier releases. And in the second half Dominic moves on to show how the new features of 3dsmax 8.0 such as Pelt Mapping and its enhanced Relax Tools can be used to accelerate and complement the processes shown in the first section of the DVD.
This DVD is intended for advanced users and requires an understanding of the principles of UVs and a good working knowledge of the UV Unwrap tool featured in 3dsmax. The workflows on this DVD can to a large extent also be carried across to other 3d software such as Maya and XSI.

Description
In this first of our Advanced MAXScript DVDs, Bobo introduces us to the world of 3D math, or as he puts it “how the 3D world functions under the hood…”. This DVD progresses through the theory and practical application of vector, trig, matrix and barycentric coordinate math. It will allow you to manipulate objects transforms, particles speed and motion, to easily align one object to another, and builds on all of these topics to culminate in a fully scripted ray-tracing rendering system!!
This DVD is an ideal introduction or refresher course for any Intermediate or Advanced scripter that wants gain (or re-gain) control of 3D math skills within MAXScript and in doing so push their skills forward and take a firmer control of many areas of 3dsmax.

FinalRender Stage-1 Release 2.0 SP1 for 3dsmax 6 - 2008

cebas Computer, maker of finalRender®, today announces the release of Service Pack 1 for finalRender, finalToon, and finalShaders R2. SP1 fully supports 3ds Max 2008 and has an installer for all supported versions of 3ds Max. All users should download SP1 and install it today!

Service Pack 1 for 3ds Max

In our ongoing desire to serve the needs and expectations of our customers, cebas Computer will periodically release Service Packs to enhance features and stability for your production usage. It is strongly recommended that you always keep your software up-to-date with these Service Packs.

Please be aware that this is a full install with all files, scenes, and manuals. You must completely uninstall the previous version of of your software from Add/Remove programs (not IPCLAMP) and then install the service pack.

!!IMPORTANT!!
You must download and install the new IPCLAMP update which is also available in your download area of the cebas shop. SP1 will not work without the new IPCLAMP update. You will need to uninstall your old IPCLAMP (from Add/Remove programs) and install the new version. You do not need to reauthorize IPCLAMP as long as you reinstall it into the same place/directory it was previously.

Fryrender Beta 1.9

This is probably the most awaited version of fryrender up to date.

The main reason for this is that vBeta1.9 is fully 64-bit ready,

meaning that it’s more production-ready than ever.

64-bit ready

The most remarkable implications of the 64-bit port are:

1- The core engine and libraries have been cleanly ported to 64-bit, and support both 32 and 64 bits seamlessly. This applies not only to fry but to all of Feversoft’s libraries, and our existing and future apps, like RC4.

2- In 64-bit systems, the 64-bit release is -FASTER- than the 32-bit one (up to 5-10% faster). This is because 64-bit CPUs execute (native) 64-bit code faster than non-native 32-bit code.

3- In the 64-bit release you won’t be limited by the 2GB RAM limit anymore. The only limit in the 64-bit release is the total amount of RAM available to your system. So if you own N GB, fry64 will be free to use all of them.

4- Because of the non-limited RAM usage, you’ll be able to render heavier scenes, and at larger resolutions.

5- We have split all the plugins where the host 3D app has a 64-bit version.

Put in short, from now on, all the RAM available to your 64-bit CPU/OS will be available to fryrender.

The new list of plugins for 32-bit platforms is:

3dsMax/VIZ 6-7-8, 3dsMax 9-2008, Cinema 4D R9.6-10, Lightwave 9.0, Lightwave 9.2-9.3, Rhino 3D R4, Maya 8.0, Maya 8.5, Maya 2008, SketchUp Pro 5-6, SoftImage|XSI 6.

and for 64-bit platforms:

3dsMax 9-2008, Cinema 4D R9.6-10, Lightwave 9.0, Lightwave 9.2-9.3, Maya 8.0, Maya 8.5, Maya 2008.

Note that even if your host app is 32-bit only (Rhino or SketchUp) you can still render using fryrender’s 64-bit standalone core.

From now on, there will be 2 setups. The 32-bit one, including the 32-bit core and all the 32-bit plugins, and the 64-bit one, with the 64-bit core and plugins. You can install both if you want. By default, the standalone app of the last setup installed will be linked to the .fry extension, and hence invoked when rendering from any of the plugins.

Core improvements

Many good things have happened inside fryrender’s core besides the support for 64-bit CPUs. The materials system has been heavily revisited and significantly improved.

A new BRDF carries all the effects now. From an aesthetical point of view, this means *BETTER-LOOKING* metals, dielectrics, and plastics. From a purely technical point of view this means that some technical problems have been erradicated (Better noise convergence for glossy materials, no Phong energy loss anymore, better frosted glass, …).

From the user’s point of view this only means one thing: Better materials with the same effort. We’re extremely happy with the new output coming out straight from the engine, and we hope that you’ll be too.

Other remarkable things have been tuned or improved, such as the sky system, or the color mapping routines. All of them leading to better quality or, in some cases, speed.

New features

Environment mapping has been BOOSTED thanks to our Image-Based Lighting (IBL) technology. It is now possible to quickly illuminate product shots or even exterior shots using HDR maps, achieving astonishing results in a record time.

This feature will be loved by our productvizzers out there, and may come in really handy to achieve a broad range of effects in exterior shots as well.

Some care has been put in the workflow too. Some improvements have been made in the UI here and there, and the very convenient Media Pool (drag and drop for maps and spectrums) has been included in the Material Editor too. A Sun Object has included in the plugins to control the Sun position interactively.

Upon general request,this is the first video ever released about this immense and yet not well-known field of computer graphics. L-systems are a very useful language for describing fractal looking objects and branching structures. It’s mainly used in environmental design, both artistic and scientific, to create realistic plants and trees and to simulate complex botanical animated phenomena. It has been used in special effects in a great variety of films to create anatomical patterns such as neurons in Fight Club or vessels in Hollow-Man 2.
